Crown Molding
Decorative trim placed at the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling. Idaho Forest Products hand-peeled crown molding gives the appearance of built-in vigas.

Engleman Spruce
A spruce pine. Primary wood used by Idaho Forest Products and is cut dead-standing for use in our lumber mill.

Hand-Peeled
A method used by craftsman to prepare wood using a draw-knife. This is the method used on our Vigas and Latillas.

Kiva
Ceremonial room or structure used by Pueblo Indians. The Kiva is entered from the roof by means of a Kiva ladder. Kiva ladders can be constructed from latillas.

Kiva Fireplace
Rounded corner fireplace typically made from adobe or simulated materials.

Latilla
A small diameter hand-peeled tree used for ceilings and accents. Also used to build Kiva ladders.

Split Latilla
Split hand-peeled latillas with a flat back. Can be used for ceilings, room dividers, gates, and other applications. Don't be fooled by companies selling fake, machine made, not hand peeled "latilla panels". If you want a latilla. It is hand peeled. Each is individually different. Not all smooth and exactly the same.

Lintel
The horizontal beam that forms the upper member of a window or door. Left exposed on Southwest homes.

Lodge Pole
A machine turned pole made from Lodge Pole Pine. Our poles are constructed from tree center and machined to leave a smooth finish.

Mantel
A protruding shelf over a fireplace. Custom-made mantels are available through Idaho Forest Products.

Rough Sawn Lumber
Lumber with a rough-sawn finish created by a band saw.

Saguaro Cactus
A cactus that is native only to Arizona and Northern Mexico.

Slab
Piece cut from the outside portion of a log. Used for fascia, shelves, and other creative ideas.

Viga
Hand-peeled log used as ceiling beams and vertical supports. Can be used for both interior and exterior applications. Our Vigas are hand-peeled from dry dead-standing Engleman Spruce. This eliminates the movement and sapping found in wet wood.

Zapata
Two-sided corbel placed between a vertical viga and a horizontal beam.
